
Footballers and gamers back De Gea’s new esports project
Juan Mata and Bruno Fernandes echoed Rebels launch through their stories on Instagram, including a link to the unveiling video, along with the already consolidated #BeRebels tag. The international Portuguese also twitted a kind message stating “Good luck in this new project, brother”.

Victor Lidelöf and Alex Telles also provided their support retweeting the Rebels Gaming twit published on November 30, along with the unveiling video, which has already registered nearly one million views. From his side, Marcus Rashford congratulated De Gea with a lovely tweet. Something that Paul Pogba also expressed through his networks: “I bet you didn’t see this coming, mi amigo @D_DeGea, He is not only an incredible goalkeeper, he´s also a great Esports player. Watch out for his gang @RebelsGaming”.
Ander Herrera, currently at PSG squad and former De Gea’s teammate at United, shared the goalkeeper’s personal tweet, saying “dreams come true”.
The launch of Rebels Gaming also received a strong welcome from the media, both in Spain and internationally. The Cinco Días Spanish newspaper recalled the growing presence of footballers and influencers in this emerging industry through the article “David de Gea makes the leap to esports as the founder of Rebels, his new team”.
ABC also echoed the news through an article titled: “David de Gea launches into the world of eSports creating his own club”. The digital newspaper Palco23, always aware of everything that happens in the sports industry in Spain, published the news “The footballer David De Gea joins the ‘boom’ of eSports and creates his own club”, taking the opportunity to remember the relevance that this sector has claimed among the great football stars.
The Professional Videogame League also spread the news, same as Esportmaniacos, Movistar eSports, Dexerto or Esports Bureau did, among other prominent portals. “We welcome the @RebelsGaming_gg team that will be part of the Second Division of Super League, the national silver category of League of Legends”, stated the official account of the Professional Video Game League.
Several influencers and content creators in the sector such as CarameloYoutube, KuentinLoL, LVPWolk or Castro welcomed the arrival of Rebels, sharing congratulatory messages in their networks towards the new club.
David de Gea has only words of gratitude and optimism by the reception and expectation that his new project has risen from all areas: “Starting this project from scratch, making it grow and forming a team of professionals is something that I am truly enjoying.
